Lots of amazing things happened this year for us at No Joke Smoke BBQ, here is a glimpse behind the scene!!
I’d like to backtrack a bit to catch everyone up on what really got us to where we are today. In March 2017, after a 12-week extensive business accelerator program through E for All Southcoast we were chosen as one of the top prize winners and walked or skipped off with a big fat check ( that Sharon was sad she couldn’t take home ) in the amount of $4500 smackaroos! That allowed us to take a huge step in the NJS journey, first stop was to buy a pallet of jars and facilitate all that was needed to obtain our wholesale license. With this new license and a few more dollars in our wallet, No Joke Smoke was able to move part of its operation to the Commonwealth Kitchen a non-profit community based, incubator kitchen that will allow us to ramp up production. It will allow us to do that all the while keeping the quality and freshness that you’ve come to love from NJS. We are proud to say we obtained our wholesale license and have landed our sauce in 10 stores on the Southcoast. You can now find our Signature Saweet Heat BBQ and Wicked Honey Mustard sauces as well as our seasonal sauces as they come out on the shelves along with at the farmers’ markets we visit each week.
The move to the Commonwealth Kitchen has also opened a tremendous amount of doors for us in the short time we’ve started working with them. One of which was an invitation to participate in a new section of the Fancy Food Show in NYC on June 27th called “Incubator Alley”. In its 65th year, the Fancy Food Show is North America’s Largest Specialty Food and Beverage Event. We were one of 8 companies showcasing our products in that section, which is one of many sections of over 2400 exhibitors showcasing over 140,000 products… So a bit overwhelming for two kids from Swansea, MA. We learned so much and can’t wait to be back hopefully in the “New on the Shelves” section next year.
If that wasn’t overwhelming enough we are proud to say that our Saweet Heat bbq sauce took home 2nd place in the 2017 Saucekers, a national BBQ sauce competition, in the Spicy tomato category. This is one of the toughest categories of the competition so we are so excited to bring this medal home to Massachusetts!
Did you hear us on the radio in July???? We had a blast joining up with Fun107 radio station and Miller Lite for the month of July to celebrate Grilling Month. We visited 5 local liquor stores and got to sample our sauces along with one of our fan favorite sandwiches, a pulled pork grilled cheese sandwiches and got to give away lots of great prizes! We were fortunate to be asked by Fun107 to join them for their Brews and BBQ event in September at Running Brook Vineyard, with a concert by BadFish.
We had lots of amazing events at our home base the Swansea Farmers Market, at Stony Creek Farm, where we are lucky enough to house our custom built smoker! We use Stony Creek farms grass fed beef exclusively in all of our farmers market and catered events. We have lots of great events coming to the farm this winter and spring so stay tuned.
You may not know that we are sponsors for The Collective, a non-profit theatre group out of New Bedford, who also happen to be fellow alumni of EforAll Southcoast with us. With that partnership came a collaboration with another sponsor of theirs, Mary’s Steamed Cheeseburgers to pair up our sauces with her culinary creations!! We love to team up with local businesses and spread the sauce revolution. Maybe a BBQ pop up in the future?
One of our most exciting ventures is our partnerships with local New England breweries and wineries. We love to showcase how well our sauces pair with beer and wine. Look for us at Mayflower Brewery, Sam Adams Brewery, and Running Brook winery over the winter!
One of the most important things to us at No Joke Smoke is the relationships we forge with the local farms, small businesses and of course our customers. We started as 2 kids with an idea to bring a healthier way to eat BBQ, using locally sourced organic ingredients. Without the support of our amazing customers and all the awesome people, we work with we would not be where we are today. Our E for All Southcoast family has been instrumental in getting us to the next step in our journey. Stay tuned for lots more on our sauce revolution.
